Bunes Beach, Moskenesøy, Lofoten Islands

Now you’ve made it to the Lofoten Islands. Bring on the mountain peaks and gorgeous beaches! If it only it was that easy. A lot of the really cool beaches and and interesting heights are in harder to reach places, which will require hiking, or a ferry – yes another one once you’re already on the islands.

Getting There: Ferry from Reine to Vindstad

In Reine there is a ferry carrying passengers to Vindstad (details here), from where you walk through the village inland towards Bunes then over a small hill and head down to the beach. There are return trips in leaving Reine in the morning and returning in the afternoon.

The map below shows Bunes Beach, you get off at Vindstad and simply walk straight along the fjord and towards the west side of the island.

Bunes Beach is certainly worth the visit if you have time. However if you want to be more flexible then Kvalvika Beach is perhaps a better option, which you can reach with a car and by hiking – no ferry required. Be sure to check out Hamnøy fishing village while you’re traveling around Moskenesøy.
